Pace bowler Katherine Brunt has suffered a protrusion of one of her lumbar spine discs and will undergo surgery on Friday June 1 in the hope of avoiding more extensive surgery.
She will then go through a 12-week recovery period following the procedure.
After six weeks there will be a review, but it is unlikely that the 21-year-old will be fit for the international series against New Zealand in August.
England captain Charlotte Edwards is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery on her right knee.
Edwards suffered fairly extensive damage to the back of the knee cap which required minor surgery.
Her situation will be reviewed next week and she is hoping to be fit in time to take on New Zealand.
