Anya Shrubsole picked up three wickets on her England Twenty20 debut

Anya Shrubsole made an instant impression on her Twenty20 debut for England women, taking three wickets as South Africa were defeated by 43 runs at Northampton.

England had wrapped up the series with a 37-run win this morning, but made it a clean sweep as South Africa once again struggled with the bat in the second part of today’s double-header, ending on 80 for nine in response to England’s 123 for five.

Charlotte Edwards continued her excellent form in the shortest format of the game, top-scoring for England with an unbeaten 33 to follow up her 76 not out in the first match of the day.

Sarah Taylor had set up the innings with 31 off 32 balls, but lost opening partner Ebony Rainford-Brent for her third successive duck.

But Beth Morgan chipped in with a run-a-ball 22 and Lydia Greenway made 18 off 23 balls as England proved too strong for the South Africa attack.

In reply, South Africa had managed just five before their first wicket fell when Olivia Anderson was caught by Greenway off the bowling of Katherine Brunt.

Shrubsole then got in on the action, capturing Alicia Smith, Shandre Fritz and Susan Benade on her way to figures of 3-19 from her four overs to end a good few days for the bowler, who also got her GCSE results this week.

Laura Marsh also picked up impressive figures of 2-7 from three overs as only Ashlyn Kilowan put up any resistance, making 22 off 28 balls before being bowled by Lynsey Askew, with one ball of the innings remaining.
