Perfect 10 for champions
Kent regained the LV= Women's County Championship in style with an emphatic seven-wicket win over outgoing champions Sussex.
Needing just a point to lift the trophy they won in 2006 and 2007, Kent left nothing to chance by crushing their south coast rivals to record their 10th straight win of the season.
Lydia Greenway led the charge with 89 not out as Kent successfully chased 197 for victory.
Kent skipper Charlotte Edwards won the toss and elected to bowl first knowing three wickets would guarantee them the bonus point they needed to win the championship.
But Edwards' decision looked like it might backfire when England team-mates Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins put on 53 for the first wicket.
Charlotte Anneveld made the breakthrough, dismissing Taylor for 34 but Atkins and Rosalie Birch continued the good work and took the score to 90.
Again it was Anneveld who struck when she castled Atkins for 34 and it was the same bowler who claimed the crucial third wicket, trapping Laura Marsh leg before which brought the title-clinching bonus point.
Buoyed by getting their hands back on the championship trophy, Kent continued to take regular wickets with Joanna Watts and Edwards matching Anneveld's efforts by taking three wickets apiece as Sussex were bowled out for 196.
Only Birch offered any resistance, her unbeaten 53 coming from 106 deliveries.
Kent faltered in their reply as they lost openers Natalie Lane and Tammy Beaumont with just 21 runs on the board.
But the experienced pair of Edwards and Greenway were not going to let the moment pass and they joined forces to ensure Kent finished on a high.
The duo put on 139 runs before Edwards was run out by Holly Colvin for 71.
It was left to Greenway and Susie Rowe to knock off the required runs with six overs still to spare.
