White Ferns and Windies win

New Zealand and West Indies won their opening Super Six games to stay in strong contention for a place in the Women’s World Cup final.

On the day that Australia stayed top of the Super Six table with a nail-biting two-run defeat of England, the White Ferns and Windies remained the nearest challengers for a final place.

New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by eight wickets with 27 overs to spare at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex after dismissing their opponents for 103 in 42 overs with seamer Lea Tahuhu taking 4-27.

West Indies beat South Africa by two wickets at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium, chasing 231 with 27 balls remaining on the back of Stafanie Taylor’s 75.

The results leave Australia on six points, New Zealand and West Indies with four, England and South Africa on two and South Africa with nought.
