Sapphires keeper Lauren Griffiths whips off the bails as her side dominated the T20s

Danielle Wyatt top-scored with 47 from 40 balls as the Sapphires emerged victorious in the Super 4s Twenty20.

The competition, which sees the country’s leading 48 players divided into four teams, was played at Kibworth on Monday, with the Sapphires defeating the Rubies by eight wickets in the final.

Wyatt received good support from fellow England international Laura Marsh, who made 28 in an opening stand of 78, as her side chased down a target of 126 with 10 balls to spare.

Skipper Heather Knight, Amanda Potgieter and Izi Noakes had earlier claimed two wickets apiece to restrict the Rubies to 125 for seven, despite a 23-ball 39 from Holly Colvin.

Colvin had also struck a run-a-ball 32 before claiming outstanding figures of 4-19 in her side’s dramatic semi-final victory over the Diamonds.

Caroline Atkins and Claire Taylor also contributed 40 and 36 respectively in that match as the Rubies posted 147 for six, while England captain Charlotte Edwards struck a wonderful 62 as the Diamonds fell four runs short of their target.

The Sapphires breezed to an eight-wicket win over the Emeralds in the other semi-final, with Knight and Arran Brindle finishing unbeaten on 47 and 34.

No Emeralds player could better Helen Shipman’s 21 as they subsided to 98 all out, with one ball unused.

Shipman starred again in the third place play-off, striking an unbeaten 43 in a total of 117 for three, but the Diamonds reached their target with three wickets and nine balls to spare, thanks largely to another fantastic knock from Edwards, who hit 58 from 36 deliveries at the top of the order.
