Lewis takes Nero's place
Juliana Nero has been forced to withdraw from the West Indies squad for the women’s World Cup in Australia next month.
The 29-year-old all-rounder sustained a hamstring injury during training, and the Windies have moved to cover her absence by recalling fast bowler Debbie-Ann Lewis, 10 years her senior.
The tournament’s technical committee cleared Lewis to be included in the squad for what will be her second World Cup; she claimed six wickets in the 2005 competition in South Africa.
Lewis, who has taken 25 wickets in 37 one-day internationals, is the second replacement player in the World Cup after Marizanne Kapp came in for Kirsty Thomson in the South Africa party.
West Indies meet South Africa in their opening game on March 8 in Newcastle.
