Opportunity knocks for Australia fringe players
Australia have named a much-changed Twenty20 squad for next Wednesday’s one-off match against West Indies at the Gabba.
With a quartet of players from the previous T20 party - Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell and Xavier Doherty - heading out to India early in order to prepare for a four-Test series and David Warner unavailable due to his injured thumb, there are five fresh faces.
Brad Haddin and Clint McKay return to the fold, while Ben Rohrer, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Josh Hazlewood - all uncapped at Twenty20 level with the latter having featured in a solitary one-day international - are also included.
National selector John Inverarity said: “With the Test squad being in India this fixture will provide some more players with invaluable international experience.”
Australia squad for T20 against West Indies: George Bailey (captain), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ben Cutting, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Laughlin, Clint McKay, Shaun Marsh, Ben Rohrer, Adam Voges.
