Aussies turn to Hussey junior
Victoria batsman David Hussey could be set for a surprise one-day international debut when Australia face India in the latest Commonwealth Bank Series clash at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
The native Western Australian, who made his international bow a few of weeks ago in the Twenty20 clash between the two nations, has been summoned by the squad after Michael Clarke was struck in the ribs during the win over Sri Lanka on Friday.
With Clarke in doubt for the latest Commonwealth Bank Series match in Adelaide, selectors have called up Hussey ahead of his Victoria team-mate Brad Hodge.
And having spent the past two days representing the Bushrangers at the SCG in their top-of-the-table battle with the New South Wales Blues, Hussey was still coming to terms with his sudden call-up after play had finished on Saturday.
"I'm really excited but it hasn't really sunk in yet," said Hussey. "Probably when I get on the plane it will sink in.
"I wasn't expecting it. I was looking forward to batting by lunchtime tomorrow for the Vics and hopefully put on 400 and defending them on the last day and bowling them out.
"But I really want to dip my feet into international cricket and play some more, so this is a great opportunity."
Hussey played alongside older brother Michael in the international Twenty20 game, and has already earmarked the spot in the batting order he wants if regular number four Clarke is ruled out.
"Just as long as I bat ahead of Mike I will be very, very happy. I bat four for Victoria so I'd like to bat there," he joked.
"But it doesn't matter where I bat as long as I get a game."
