TwelfthMan: My account
New Zealand’s selectors have resisted making wholesale changes for this week’s second Test against India in Napier.
The Black Caps were thrashed by 10 wickets in the opening Test, but the only change to the squad which under-performed in Hamilton is the omission of uncapped medium-pacer Brent Arnel.
Arnel, who did not play in the first Test, suffered a side strain playing for his state.
Iain O’Brien and Daniel Flynn are suffering from minor injuries but are expected to play, while Jacob Oram is still short of match fitness.
“He’s only had a couple of days in the domestic competition - and after talking with him, we agree he’d benefit from more game time to get up to the fitness level needed for the Test side,” said Glenn Turner, head of the selection panel.
New Zealand squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Daniel Flynn, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Tim McIntosh, Brendon McCullum, Chris Martin, Kyle Mills, Iain O’Brien, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor.
