Bollinger fizzing for NSW
Simon Katich has urged national selectors to look at NSW team-mate Doug Bollinger for the Chappell-Hadlee series after the paceman ripped through Tasmania in a one-sided Pura Cup match at the SCG.
The 26-year old took six wickets in each innings to finish with his best ever figures of 12-131.
Australia selector Merv Hughes was there to see Bollinger's heroic performance which surely must help his chances for selection in the three-match one-day series against New Zealand in December.
"I'd imagine that he is very, very close (to selection) if anyone gets injured," Katich said.
"He's been bowling beautifully for us all season - he must be nearly 30 wickets for the season - and that's a phenomenal effort in three games.
"He's bowling quick, he's swinging it and he's just been fantastic for us so hopefully he's not far away.
"He's been good in both forms of the game so there is no reason why he couldn't get a start in the one-dayers."
Bollinger has been with playing with NSW for six years, but has failed to cement a regular spot, often being left out when the Blues' big name players return from national duty.
But Katich believes Bollinger's 2006/07 season announced his arrival and after starting this season so brightly, selectors will be forced to have a look at him.
"Last year I reckon he broke through. His season for us was very good," added Katich.
"He got his first five-for in the (Pura Cup) final and since then he's really kicked on.
"I think he knows exactly what he's up to out there in the middle at the moment.
"He's bowling really well with the new ball and equally as well with the old ball.”
Bollinger took 37 wickets in nine matches at an average of 28.38 in the Pura Cup in his breakthrough season, and if he continues his great form there is no reason why he shouldn't be considered for national selection.
