Botha doosra outlawed
Johan Botha has been given the go-ahead to resume his international career, but the South Africa off-spinner will have to do without the doosra.
The Proteas vice-captain has been undergoing tests on his bowling action in Perth and the news now paves the way for him to play at the World Twenty20 in June next month.
Botha was reported by Brian Jerling and Asoka de Silva along with third umpire Rudi Koertzen after the fourth one-day against Australia last month, with the three officials expressing concern over the 26-year-old's quicker ball and doosra.
He was then ordered to undergo the tests by the International Cricket Council and the latest developments have left national coach Mickey Arthur extremely pleased.
It was the second time the player had been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action. It happened previously in January 2006 after the third Test against Australia in Sydney and he was suspended from bowling the following month when testing confirmed the officials' suspicions.
Botha then underwent remedial action, was retested, and, with his action at that time found to be legal, was able to resume playing international cricket.
