Johan Botha will help fill the gap created by Shane Warne's absence for the remainder of the tournament
Indian Premier League side Rajasthan Royals have signed South Africa off-spinner Johan Botha.
Botha was on the verge of signing a contract with the Royals prior to the start of the current tournament, but that deal was put on hold after he was reported for a suspect bowling action during the one-day series against Australia.
He underwent a series of tests in Australia to prove the legitimacy of his action, and was last week cleared by the International Cricket Council to resume his career, provided he did not bowl his ‘doosra’, which was deemed illegal.
That prompted Rajasthan to offer Botha another deal covering the remainder of the IPL.
“Johan Botha is a sensational player and we were disappointed when he couldn't be part of our squad at the start of the tournament,” said captain Shane Warne. “It is a real boost that he can now make an impact when called upon.”
