Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt has said Javed Miandad will perform the specific role of developing cricket in the country.

Former captain Miandad was reinstated as the PCB's director general earlier this week, a post he had quit in January.

Miandad was first appointed director general of the PCB in November last year, but quit just days after receiving a formal contract in January.

Miandad, Pakistan's most prolific batsman, said he had resigned because he his contract had specified a role 'limited' to domestic cricket.

Butt, who had come under intense pressure to reinstate Miandad, indicated Miandad would have no link with international, finance and administrative affairs of the board.

"We have a number of staff already working in these areas," Butt said. "It would not be fair to them if Miandad does every job in the presence of so many employees.

"Miandad has signed a contract under which he will assist the PCB only with the development of the game.”

Butt also said there would be no clash of duties between Miandad and chief operating officer Saleem Altaf.

β€œThe COO is a constitutional post appointed by the governing board, so both DG and COO have no clash of duties,” he said.

Meanwhile, Miandad has also accepted an advisory role with the Chinese Cricket Association.

"They are passionate about cricket and CCA is trying to let more and more youngsters learn this game," Miandad said. "It's an honour for me.”
