CLT20 returns to South Africa

South Africa will host this year’s Champions League T20, in which the 2012 Friends Life t20 finalists will have the chance to compete, during October.

It will be the second time South Africa has staged the tournament, having previously held it in 2010. The 2009 and 2011 editions took place in India.

Like last year, the FLt20 finalists will have to go through a qualifying tournament to reach the competition proper. This time, however, only two rather than three from six will progress because an extra guaranteed spot has been awarded to the fourth-placed team in the Indian Premier League.

The competition will be played at Cape Town, Centurion, Durban and Johannesburg. It is due to begin two days after the World Twenty20 final, running from October 9 to 28. The schedule is yet to be announced.

The eight teams guaranteed a place are the defending champions Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils (all from India), Sydney Sixers, Perth Scorchers (both Australia), Titans and Lions (both South Africa).

Pakistan's Sialkot Stallions, New Zealand's Auckland Aces, Trinidad & Tobago from the West Indies, one team from Sri Lanka and two from England will play in the qualifier. It is the first time a team from Pakistan has been allowed to enter.
