O'Connor handed Australian role
The Board of Cricket Australia has elected South Australian Creagh O'Connor as deputy chairman, effective from June 1.
Cricket Australia have not had a deputy chair since 2001 but recreated the position to spread the strategic policy leadership load.
Chairman Bob Merriman said: “In the immediate period ahead, Cricket Australia's board will be considering an unusually wide range of issues, including renewal of our Memorandum of Understanding with players, renewal of a number of major commercial contracts, and a range of international issues at the International Cricket Council board table.
“Directors felt it important to broaden our own team's strategic issues leadership experience and Creagh O'Conner's cricket administration and commercial experience stands him in good stead for this new role.”
O'Connor played cricket for Floreat Park in Perth and Kensington Cricket Club in Adelaide.
He has been a Cricket Australia director for seven years, a South Australian Cricket director since 1990 and is a director of the Les Favell Foundation in Adelaide and a governor of the Bradman Memorial Fund along with Merriman.
