Man-of-the-match Gautam Gambhir paid tribute to Scotland’s bowlers after he steered India to a seven-wicket win in Glasgow.

Chasing a revised Duckworth-Lewis target of 209 in 46 overs, the issue was virtually settled when openers Robin Uthappa and Gambhir compiled a century stand in 20 overs.

But Gambhir, who plundered an unbeaten 85 off 115 balls, believes it was a good test ahead of the forthcoming one-day series with England.

He said: “Scotland gave us a good test and I thought their bowlers put the ball in good areas.

“But I was delighted to get some runs and help the team win.”

Scotland star Gavin Hamilton insisted the toss played a vital part in the tourists’ win at Titwood.

The hosts 203 for nine from 46 overs meant the Indians were given a worthwhile workout ahead of their ODI series with England.

However, Hamilton believes the outcome might have been different if home skipper Ryan Watson had won the toss.

The former England and Yorkshire all-rounder said: “I think a lot was always going to hinge on the toss and at 40-odd for four we had a real challenge on our hands.

“The ball was moving around a lot first thing and we had to get our heads down and rebuild.

“Luckily Neil (McCallum) and I were able to put a partnership together and it helped that they brought their spinners on.

“We thought our total was pretty competitive but India showed their class in the end. They had 50 runs on the board before we realised it.

“But we can take a lot out of this game.”
