Two-time defending champions Ireland had the better of the first day of the ICC Intercontinental Cup final against Namibia at Port Elizabeth.
The Africans had captain Louis Burger to thank that they were still batting at the close as his unbeaten 72, which included 10 fours and a six, took them to 241 for nine.
Burger had earlier won the toss but Namibia's top order failed to register a meaningful partnership, twice losing two wickets for one run.
The skipper came to the crease at 82 for four but, having lost two partners cheaply, put on 91 for the seventh wicket with Bjorn Kotze (43).
Burger also received valuable support from his namesake, but no relation, Kola who was 22 not out. The number 11 batsman added 29 with his captain.
Opening bowler Peter Connell led the way for Ireland with 4-51 including tailenders Tobias Verwey and Louis Klazinga for ducks in quick succession.
Connell will have the chance to complete a five-wicket haul when play resumes on the second day of five.
