Ireland retain under-23 title
In a one-sided match, Ireland retained the Under-23 Championship after defeating hosts Scotland at Glasgow by 116 runs.
The first two days play, which would have seen the Netherlands side in action, were abandoned due to flooding.
The hosts won the toss and elected to field. After William Porterfield was removed with only three runs on the board, James Hall and Paul Stirling made some headway before Scotland’s Calum MacLeod removed Hall, bringing Kevin O’Brien, one of the Irish World Cup heroes, to join Stirling at the crease.
The pair built a 99-run partnership helping 17 year-old Stirling to score a well deserved 110, including a towering six through the pavilion window to steer Ireland to 220 for eight.
Scotland got off to a disastrous start in reply, losing Goudie, Farid and captain Qasim Sheikh with only 30 runs on the board.
It was a position from which they never recovered and Ireland seized most of their chances to restrict Scotland to 104 all out.
