Porterfield powers Ireland to victory
Skipper Will Porterfield led from the front as Ireland cruised to a four-wicket win in their one-off Twenty20 international against the United Arab Emirates at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Porterfield struck an aggressive 40-delivery 58, which featured four fours and three sixes, as Ireland eased to a victory target of 123 with 1.1 overs to spare. Their triumph was sealed by Surrey’s Gary Wilson, who hit two maximums en route to 35 not out from just 27 balls.
Tim Murtagh was the star with the ball, claiming 3-11 - a haul that was backed up by two wickets apiece for Middlesex team-mate Paul Stirling and Somerset’s George Dockrell.
Swapnil Patil top-scored for the UAE with 41, while Rohan Mustafa and Mohammad Azam chipped in with 24 and 20 not out respectively. Their efforts would eventually prove in vain, though.
