South Africa have unveiled their 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20, which will be held in the country next month.
The line-up includes a number of young and upcoming players, although experienced one-dayers Jacques Kallis, Andre Nel and Andrew Hall are surprise omissions.
It was the first squad chosen by newly-appointed chairman of selectors Joubert Strydom, and he is confident they have what it takes to challenge for honours on home soil.
Strydom said: "The Proteas T20 squad announced today provides the coach and captain with various options in all departments. There is a good blend of experience and youth in the squad.
"This will stand us in good stead going forward especially with the long season ahead.
"The success of some individuals in the tours since the ICC Cricket World Cup, the tour to Ireland and the Emerging Players' Tournament, has highlighted the depth we have in our pool.
"This T20 Squad will certainly represent us well in the very first ICC World Twenty20 tournament."
Proteas coach Mickey Arthur added: "This is an exciting 15-man squad announced today. Our depth and talent gives us combinations that will assist us in playing an equally exciting game of Twenty20 cricket."
South Africa Twenty20 squad: Graeme Smith (Captain), Gulam Bodi, Loots Bosman, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, Jean-Paul Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Justin Kemp, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Vernon Philander, Shaun Pollock, Thandi Tshabalala, Johan van der Wath.
