Bangladesh's tour ends in defeat

Bangladesh could not stop the flying start provided by Eric Szwarczynski, who ensured a miserable end to their tour
Half-centuries from opener Eric Szwarczynski and Wesley Barresi carried the Netherlands to a memorable six-wicket win over Bangladesh with seven balls to spare in the rain-affected one-day international in Glasgow.
A wet outfield at Titwood saw the start delayed until mid-afternoon and meant the one-off match was reduced to 30 overs per side.
Bangladesh made 199 for seven after being asked to bat first, Imrul Kayes top-scoring with a 50-ball 53 including five fours and a six.
Jahurul Islam and Junaid Siddique contributed 41 and 31 as the Tigers recovered from the loss of opener Tamim Iqbal for two in the second over.
Mahmudullah also boosted the total late on with 28 from 29 balls.
Peter Borren picked up the crucial wicket of Kayes and also removed Jahurul Islam and Mushfiqur Rahim in his six-over spell of 3-29. Mark Jonkman and Mudassar Bukhari claimed two wickets apiece.
Szwarczynski got the chase off to a flying start with 67 from 54 balls before he became Shakib Al Hasan’s second victim but, just as the Netherlands innings looked set to flounder at 104 for four at the midway point, number six batsman Barresi seized control.
The Johannesburg-born 26-year-old smashed 64 off 43 deliveries, including 11 boundaries, to steer the Netherlands to their victory target with the help of Bas Zuiderent’s 35 not out.
Defeat ends a tough tour for Bangladesh, who were also defeated once by Ireland in the leg of ODIs tagged on to the end of their visit of England.
