Scotland slip to defeat
Scotland narrowly missed out on a draw, going down to Afghanistan by 229 runs in the ICC Intercontinental Cup at Ayr.
Seamer Hamid Hassan took 11 wickets in the match, notably 6-40 as the hosts were routed for 139 in their first innings.
That handed Afghanistan a 296-run first-innings lead after number seven Samiullah Shenwari had made three figures.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad followed suit as the tourists declared on 249 for five on the third afternoon, setting Scotland an improbable 546 for victory.
They opted to bat for the draw, but Hassan again dominated - taking the last two wickets this afternoon.
