Sharks cut through Netherlands

Ben Brown top-scored for Sussex, who beat the Netherlands by 34 runs in their Caribbean T20 opener at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium
Sussex recorded a comfortable 34-run win over the Netherlands at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in both side’s first game of the Caribbean T20.
After electing to bat, the Sharks made 125 for nine from 20 overs - Ben Brown top-scoring with 42 at a run a ball.
Opener Chris Nash hit 20 but besides him and Brown only Joe Gatting and Naveed Arif Gondal reached double figures as 21-year-old debutant paceman Timm van der Gugten took 5-21.
However, the Netherlands slumped to 28 for six in the seventh over of their reply and Peter Borren’s 40-ball 45 could not rescue them.
Naveed claimed 3-12 and there were two wickets for Chris Liddle and captain Michael Yardy as Borren was last out in the 19th over.
Sussex’s next match is versus Jamaica at the same venue on Thursday.
