Stuart Clark produced a devastating display with the ball to inspire Australia to victory in the first Test against West Indies.

Clark claimed four wickets on the final day – including three in the first session – as the tourists bowled the Windies out for 191 to seal a 95-run triumph in Jamaica.

Brett Lee and Stuart MacGill chipped in with two wickets apiece – the veteran spinner cleaned up the tail – but it was Clark who really shone as he finished with second-innings figures of 5-32.

The home side lost three wickets for just eight runs to slip from 74 for three to 82 for six and, although Denesh Ramdin and Darren Sammy offered some stubborn resistance with a seventh-wicket partnership of 67, the damage had been done.

Clark made the early inroads by dismissing Ramnaresh Sarwan and Devon Smith, with neither able to build significantly on their overnight scores.

Starting the day on 46 for one, needing a further 241 to win, West Indies lost Sarwan for 12 in just the third over of the day when a leading edge was brilliantly held after a spot of juggling by Andrew Symonds.

And Smith followed for 28 four overs later, trapped in front as he shouldered arms to a Clark inswinger.

Runako Morton's time at the crease managed just nine before he fell lbw to a vicious inswinger from Lee, and Dwayne Bravo became Clark's third wicket of the morning when he spooned a catch to Mitchell Johnson without scoring.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul, whose first-innings century, compiled after he had been flattened by a Lee bouncer, had given the Windies hope of victory, could not repeat the feat this time.

He managed just nine before he was caught and bowled by Lee, who was unlucky not to pick up the wicket of Ramdin as wicketkeeper Brad Haddin just failed to hold on to a diving catch.

That missed chance threatened to frustrate the tourists as Ramdin and Sammy halted the steady flow of wickets with some determined batting.

Ramdin, however, was eventually run out after for 36 and the break-up of the partnership sealed West Indies' fate.

The impressive Clark struck again to remove Sammy lbw for 35 and, though Daren Powell cracked six fours on his way to 27, MacGill claimed the final two wickets in successive balls to seal victory.

The silver-haired veteran had Powell caught behind, while Amit Jaggernauth was held by Phil Jaques at short leg.
