TwelfthMan: My account
Uncapped all-rounder Ryan Harris has been called up to Australia’s one-day squad for the Commonwealth Bank Series against South Africa after Peter Siddle withdrew through injury.
The seamer has been sidelined by a stress fracture of the foot, paving the way for Harris’ inclusion in a 13-man squad.
Harris, 29, played one first-class match for Sussex as a non-overseas player last season before returning to Australia, where his performances for Queensland have caught the eye of the selectors.
Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris confirmed Siddle will need to rest to allow the injury to heel.
"He had previous pain in his left foot which became worse during the Test Series against South Africa," he said.
"Peter needs a short period of rest before resuming bowling which we anticipate will be in a further two weeks but he is expected to take part in the Commonwealth Bank Series against New Zealand in February."
David Warner, who hit 89 off 43 balls on his international debut in the Twenty20 clash against South Africa last week, has been placed on standby while Michael Clarke’s thumb injury is assessed.
The first game of the five-match one-day series takes place on Friday at the MCG.
