TwelfthMan: My account
Rising New South Wales star Moises Henriques has been promoted into the Australia squad for the remainder of the Commonwealth Bank Series in Darwin.
Henriques joined the squad on Sunday as a replacement for Andrew Symonds, who left ahead of Saturday's opening match against Bangladesh. However, NSP Chairman, Andrew Hilditch, said the young all-rounder is unlikely to play given his inexperience.
"This selection was complicated by the Australia A team being in India. In normal circumstances, the additional player added to the Australia squad would come from those selected for Australia A," Hilditch said.
"With only two one-day internationals remaining in Darwin and 12 fit players, however, it's unlikely that any replacement player would play in either of these matches.
"Given the importance of the Australia A tour of India, where players will have an opportunity to press for Test selection in the upcoming series, it was decided that a young emerging player should be added to the national team to gain experience.
"The NSP thought it was an ideal opportunity to reward Moises for an outstanding stint at the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence and Emerging Players Tournament."
Even if there is an injury in the Australian squad, Hilditch said that his first choice would be to bring a player back from India
"Moises will only play in exceptional circumstances," he said.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Portugal, captained the AIS team on their tour to Darwin for matches against Bangladesh.
He has played just three first-class matches, but did take 5-17 in a Pura Cup match against Queensland last season.
