Anjantha Mendis snared three wickets to help Sri Lanka to a confidence-boosting victory over West Indies in Pretoria
England's first opponents Sri Lanka won the second of their warm-up games heading into the ICC Champions Trophy as they brushed aside West Indies in Pretoria.
Sri Lanka, who suffered a 108-run defeat to Pakistan in the first of their games on Friday, eased to a comfortable five-wicket win over a poor West Indies team.
West Indies opted to bat first after winning the toss, with opener Dale Richards blasting 59 from 60 balls to give them a solid platform.
He was supported by Devon Smith (67 from 102), however skipper Darren Sammy (20 from 28) was the only other batsman to reach double figures as they crashed from 121 for three to 158 for seven before finally being bowled out for 201.
Taking up only 45.1 overs, the Windies were mainly undone by Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis - the pair both taking three wickets. Lasith Malinga also snared a couple of wickets.
In reply Sri Lanka never looked in any trouble after recovering from the early loss of Tillakaratne Dilshan for just two.
Mahela Jayawardene (67) was pivotal and contributions from Kumar Sangakkara (35 from 44) and Thilina Kandamby (44 not out) safely saw them home in 47.3 overs.
New Zealand recovered from Friday’s shock defeat to the Warriors, crushing India by 103 runs in Potchefstroom.
Fifties from Jesse Ryder, Martin Guptill and Neil Broom enabled the Black Caps to post 301 for nine from 50 overs. Yusuf Pathan picked up 3-46.
No India player reached 50 as they were dismissed for 198 in 40.3 overs. Shane Bond, Daniel Vettori and Jacob Oram each claimed two wickets.
In Benoni, Shoaib Malik’s unbeaten century ensured the Warriors did not pull off a second surprise.
Number three Malik struck 130 to reach Pakistan's target of 262 with six wickets and 19 balls to spare. Misbah-ul-Haq contributed 58.
Warriors opener Justin Kreusch fell four short of three figures in the home team’s innings.
