Ireland suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of West Indies today as the two sides prepared for the World Twenty20 with a warm-up match at Wormsley.

Ireland opted to bat after winning the toss, but they were bowled out for 119 in 19.2 overs, Lionel Baker inflicting the greatest damage with three wickets and two catches.

It took 17.5 overs for the West Indies to reach their target, with the runs shared out between their top order.

Denesh Ramdin finished their innings as top-scorer with an unbeaten 24 to complete a comfortable victory at the John Paul Getty Ground.

Later at the same venue, Fraser Watts’s unbeaten 88 aided Scotland who beat a PCA Masters XI by 12 runs.

Opener Watts struck eight fours and three sixes, adding 78 for the second wicket with Navdeep Pooni (38), before wicketkeeper Colin Smith flayed 22 from seven balls. Sri Lankan Chandra Ramanayake took 3-22.

Former England batsman Jason Gallian led the reply with 50 but the PCA’s other batsman failed to convert starts. Off-spinner Majid Haq’s 2-18 in four overs ensured they finished a dozen short of parity.
