Repeat prescription right for Shaw

England’s World Cup heroine Nicky Shaw believes a repeat of her performance in Sydney would prove decisive for England in tomorrow’s ICC Women’s World Twenty20 final at Lord’s.

Shaw's 4-34, followed by a gutsy 17 not out, took England over the finishing line at the North Sydney Oval in March against tomorrow's opponents New Zealand.

But the 27-year-old from Nuneaton stresses that England must bowl better than they did in the semi-final against Australia if they are to beat the White Ferns.

“If someone does what I did in the final, then we’ll probably win,” Shaw told ECBtv.

“I’d hope for that. Four wickets for 34 would have a massive impact in Twenty20.

“I think we have to bowl in partnerships better than we did against Australia. We helped them with freebies. The batters got us out of a whole because the Australians batted really well.”

Shaw also underlines that it matters little to England who they play - as opposed to the White Ferns stance that they would have preferred not to meet England in the final.

“They said in the press that they didn’t want to face us in the final,” explains Shaw. “We didn’t care who we face. You’ve got to beat everyone.

“We’ll keep to the basics and not think about the mental side of things too much.”
