Pakistan have made former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq their batting consultant ahead of the limited-overs tour of India this month and next.

The 42-year-old will work on a series-by-series basis, with the Pakistan Cricket Board, who has also appointed a psychologist, deciding against naming a full-time batting coach for the time being at least.

India and Pakistan will meet outside of a global competition for the first time in five years during two Twenty20 and three one-day internationals from December 25. Pakistan’s two squads are currently at a week-long training camp in Lahore before flying to India on December 22.

PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf said: "We have engaged the services of Inzamam ahead of the India tour. He won't travel to India with the team but will help the batsmen in the camp as batting consultant. He will be part of the touring unit that goes next year to South Africa.

"Psychologist Maqbool Babri has also been signed up to help motivate the players for the challenging [India] tour."
