Ireland fell agonisingly short of completing a thrilling victory as Bangladesh held on for a one-run triumph in the second Twenty20 international in Belfast.

After being set 147 to win, Ireland were left stranded on 145 for six when they ran out of overs, handing the tourists an unassailable 2-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Nasir Hossain was named man of the match for Bangladesh after his unbeaten 50 proved the cornerstone of the winning innings.

Mohammad Ashraful weighed in with 38 for the tourists, who will hope to complete a series whitewash in tomorrow’s final game.

Ireland came close to grabbing a shock win thanks to Ed Joyce’s lively 41 and 37 from Gary Wilson, but two wickets apiece for Elias Sunny and Mahmudullah slowed the hosts’ charge.

Bangladesh’s four extras conceded - against the 11 given up by the Irish - was also a crucial statistic as the tourists just scraped home.
