Jayasuriya takes his 300th wicket in one-day internationals

Sanath Jayasuriya claimed his 300th ODI wicket as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by five wickets in their second One-Day International in Colombo to win the series 2-0 with one match remaining.

The 38-year-old all rounder took 4-31 to become the ninth bowler in history to reach the landmark, with Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas the only other Sri Lankans in the 300 club.

Sri Lanka dismissed Bangladesh for 137 and reached the target with almost 20 overs to spare with Lasith Malinga taking 3-22 as a prelude to Jayasuriya's destructive spell.

Shahriar Nafees (6) edged to skipper Mahela Jayawardene while fellow opener Tamim Iqbal was bowled for three and Mushfiqur Rahim caught behind by wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara, who also accounted for Mohammed Ashraful (29).

Shakib Al Hasan (15) was bowled playing across the line and Farhad Reza (2) was run out as he attempted a risky second run. Aftab Ahmed was the tourists' top-scorer with 47, but his hopes of a half-century were dashed when Jayawardene caught him at mid-wicket handing Jayasuriya his second wicket.

He then combined with Jehan Mubarak to despatch Abdur Razzak (3), caught at long-off, and then Syed Rasel (3) at short mid-off.

He joined with Upul Tharanga to add 43 for the first wicket in Sri Lanka's reply before the partnership was broken with Tharanga caught off Shahadat Hossain's bowling then Sangakkara (6) following in similar fashion having faced just 11 balls. Jayasuriya (24) was next to fall, caught at point by Ahmed from Razzak.

Both Jayawardene and Chamara Silva were caught at mid wicket to give Ahmed a hat-trick of catches after Silva top scored for Sri Lanka although Tillakaratne Dilshan ended unbeaten on 20. He shared a 57-run partnership with Silva and struck the winning four runs at the start of the 32nd over.

Man of the match Jayasuriya said: "I am extremely happy with my achievement. I am glad to have reached my personal milestone.

"What I tried to do is bowl in the right areas and hope for wickets and it was great that I got my 300 wickets. I know I bowled very well and I am happy about it."
