TwelfthMan: My account
Left-arm paceman Mitchell Johnson has been called up to replace Ryan Harris in Australia's 13-man squad for the next two one-day internationals against South Africa.
Johnson, who did not take part in the two Twenty20 internationals or the first two ODIs, is the only addition to the Australia squad that is currently locked 1-1 in the rubber.
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said Johnson's return to action after being rested following a gruelling Test series against the Proteas is unfortunate for Harris, who took 1-54 on debut against South Africa in Hobart on Sunday.
"From a positive point of view for Ryan, we have been very impressed with his efforts and attitude during limited opportunities and we are certain he will continue to push for Australian selection in the future," said Hilditch.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia, the selectors and Australia team coaching staff have determined that no players in the national squad will be released to play in either the preliminary final or the final of the Twenty20 Big Bash.
Queensland host Victoria in the preliminary final on Wednesday with the winner to contest the final against New South Wales on Saturday night.
Australia play South Africa in the third one-day international in Sydney on Friday and then the fourth - a sell-out - in Adelaide the following Monday.
The players affected are Queensland's sole national squad member James Hopes, Bushrangers’ Cameron White and David Hussey, and Blues’ Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz and David Warner.
Cricket Australia acting chief executive Michael Brown said it was agreed the players' only focus needs to be on their preparation and performance in Australia colours.
Mike Hussey will assume vice-captaincy of the Australia squad for the remainder of the South Africa series while Michael Clarke continues his recovery from a thumb injury.
