Mahela Jayawardene & Junaid Khan

Junaid Khan will be touch and go to keep his place in Pakistan's side for the first Test with England, having suffered an abdominal injury

Left-arm seamer Junaid Khan is a doubt for the start of Pakistan’s Test series with England in the New Year after being ruled out of the tour of Bangladesh due to an abdominal injury.

The 21-year-old, who played for Lancashire this season, suffered a partial strain in his abdominal muscle during the fifth ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates, an injury that is expected to keep him out for around six weeks.

Even though the England Test rubber does not begin until January 17, Junaid will do well to recover in time to keep his place in the side that recently defeated Sri Lanka 1-0.

Mohammad Khalil, who has not played for Pakistan since 2005, is Junaid’s replacement for the trip to Bangladesh that begins on Tuesday with a Twenty20 international, followed by three one-day internationals and two Tests.
