TwelfthMan: My account
New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram is a doubt for the second Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka, which starts on Saturday.
Oram suffered back pain while bowling during the Black Caps’ first-Test victory in Chittagong, and has since undergone scans in Dhaka.
The 30-year-old, who has been plagued by back problems before, pulled up sore late in Bangladesh’s second innings and did not bowl again, but was at the crease as New Zealand completed a three-wicket win to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.
"Whether it's a muscle spasm or bone we'll have to wait and see, so there's no point speculating on it until we find out," said coach John Bracewell.
If Oram, the number one all-rounder in the International Cricket Council’s rankings, is ruled out, then Grant Elliott stands by to replace him.
Bracewell described New Zealand’s victory in Chittagong as one of the great “character wins” after they successfully chased down 317 – their highest fourth-innings pursuit on foreign soil.
“The way the guys assessed the run-chase and applied themselves, the way they changed their technique, which was foreign to them - I couldn’t heap enough praise on them,” he said.
