Lawson to lose Pakistan post

Geoff Lawson has endured a difficult relationship with Pakistan's media recently

Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson's contract will not be renewed when it expires in April, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ijaz Butt has announced.

Lawson has endured a testing relationship with the local media and had been criticised by former players over his management regime and a lack of results.

Butt had stated immediately after taking over as chairman earlier this month that he would not favour Lawson continuing to coach the team.

Financial considerations, however, have forced the PCB to allow Lawson to see out his contract.

"His is a complicated contract and if we release him right now, the PCB has to pay a very heavy price for it," Butt said.

"PCB does not have enough financial resources to meet the terms of that contract at this point in time."

Lawson was appointed in 2007 by former PCB chief Nasim Ashraf on a two-year contract.

"The day his contract ends, he will no longer be with the Pakistan team," he added.
