Lorgat confirms ICC talks
Haroon Lorgat has confirmed he would be interested in becoming the new chief executive of the International Cricket Council if the post was offered to him.
Lorgat was on the initial shortlist to replace current incumbent Malcolm Speed only for the ICC to name Imtiaz Patel as its preferred candidate.
And the governing body swiftly returned to the 47-year-old when Patel withdrew his interest to remain as chief executive of broadcaster SuperSport.
Lorgat - the former convenor of selectors in South Africa, held talks with ICC officials on Wednesday evening - after which he said: “I can confirm I have spoken to (ICC president-elect) David Morgan. We talked about the job.
“I'm reasonably confident and will take up the position if it's offered to me.”
Morgan will now report to the recruitment committee, which will have to agree on the preferred candidate and then make a recommendation to the ICC executive board to confirm the appointment as early as possible.
Speed steps down in July after seven years in office.
