TwelfthMan: My account
A disappointed Kyle Mills will return to New Zealand to play domestic cricket after missing out on selection for the second Test against Australia which begins on Friday.
Mills was a surprise omission from the Black Caps line-up for the 149-run defeat in the first Test at the Gabba and will now turn out for Auckland in their State Championship match against Wellington at Eden Park on Monday.
“I was really disappointed not to play here (Brisbane) especially as the conditions up here and the humidity really suit my style of swing bowling,” he told the Herald on Sunday.
“I will go home to get a bit of cricket because if I stayed here and not played at Adelaide it would have meant three weeks without a game.
“While I haven't played here, I have been working hard in the nets wherever possible.”
As expected. Wellington's Jeetan Patel has headed to Adelaide to bolster the spin bowling ranks, while Mark Gillespie will remain with the squad.
Batsman Peter Fulton, who was not originally scheduled to tour but joined the squad in Brisbane when there were concerns about the health of Jesse Ryder, will also remain with the team.
New Zealand lost the first Test by 149 runs and have not won a series on Australian soil since the 1985-86 season, when Richard Hadlee inspired a rare triumph.
New Zealand squad (for second Test at Adelaide, November 28-December 2): Daniel Vettori (captain), Grant Elliott, Daniel Flynn, Peter Fulton, Mark Gillespie, Gareth Hopkins, Jamie How, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Iain O`Brien, Jeetan Patel, Aaron Redmond, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.
