New Zealand coach Andy Moles would welcome an extra Test being added to India's scheduled tour of the country in March and April.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India have asked their New Zealand counterparts if they can accommodate a third Test after the cancellation of India's tour to Pakistan.
India are scheduled to begin their tour of New Zealand on March 6 with a Twenty20 international followed by five one-day matches and two Tests.
"I personally think we need to play as much Test match cricket as possible," said Moles. "I'm sure the powers that be will have a look at the organisation of those games and the time available.
"Time willing, I think it would be a great thing to play as many Tests as possible and India are one of the better sides in the world so the exposure our sides would get from playing against India would be really important."
New Zealand are currently playing a series against the West Indies then travel to Australia for a Twenty20 and one-day series which ends in Sydney on February 15 before India arrive.
