TwelfthMan: My account
New Zealand have taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match one-day international series against West Indies after claiming a three-wicket victory in Queenstown.
On a day where the batsmen appeared to struggle, New Zealand won the toss and put West Indies in.
The tourists made a poor start and had reached only 60 for four after 21.5 overs before Wavell Hinds (73) took control, helping them reach 200 for nine.
Hinds’ solo effort proved to be in vain however. Needing 201 to win, New Zealand made an awful start as they lost four wickets in the first four overs and slumped to 13 for four.
Peter Fulton and Brendon McCullum managed to halt the collapse and steered New Zealand back on course for victory. Fulton reached 49 before being removed by Rawl Lewis and then McCullum was run out while on 45.
Daniel Vettori picked up the slack and reached his half-century, ending on 53 not out as the hosts claimed the victory.
