Oram and Ryder set to return
Jacob Oram and Jesse Ryder will be back in black against India after being named in New Zealand’s Twenty20 squad for matches on Wednesday and Friday.
Oram, who has been out of action with an Achilles problem, will however, play as a batsman only.
Ryder has recovered sufficiently from his shoulder injury and looks likely to resume his opening partnership with Brendon McCullum after New Zealand failed to chase down Australia’s 150 in their previous game in Sydney.
Ross Taylor has also been confirmed fit to play after injuring his hamstring in the match against Australia.
Bowler Kyle Mills has been ruled out with an Achilles problem and is replaced by Ewen Thompson who has shown good form for Central Districts, including a four-wicket bag against the Northern Districts.
“He will give the side additional strength as a specialist new ball and swing bowler,” Glenn Turner, head of the New Zealand selection panel said.
Those who played in Australia who missed the cut are Peter Fulton, Brendon Diamanti and all-rounder James Franklin.
New Zealand squad: Daniel Vettori (capt), Neil Broom, Ian Butler, Grant Elliott, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Iain O’Brien, Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Ewen Thompson.
