Pallekele washout frustrates Pakistan
Rain scuppered Pakistan’s hopes of making further inroads into the Sri Lanka order as day two of the third Test in Pallekele was washed out.
Pakistan, one down heading into the final match of the series, grasped the ascendancy on the first evening, with paceman Junaid Khan taking 2-15 as the hosts were reduced to 44 for three in response to 226 all out.
A brief spell of sunshine before the scheduled start today merely provided false hope before the rain came and, after a 2pm inspection, umpires Steve Davis and Simon Taufel abandoned play at 3:05pm local time.
The action is due to resume 15 minutes early at 9:45am tomorrow, but with further rain forecast Pakistan will hope the already advanced game situation can work in their favour.
