Rain rules in Brisbane
The Commonwealth Bank Series opener between Australia and India in Brisbane was abandoned due to rain after Brett Lee had put the hosts in a commanding position.
Lee took 5-27 – his seventh five-wicket haul in one-day internationals – as India were bowled out for 194 in their reduced allocation of 45 overs.
Gautam Gambhir top-scored with 39 and Mahendra Singh Dhoni made 37 but India failed to break the shackles.
Further interruptions meant the hosts’ victory target was revised to 192 from 43 overs under the Duckworth–Lewis method.
But the rain persisted and, after the target had been cut to 141 from 26, a further downpour forced the abandonment with Australia 51 for three after 7.2 overs.
Seamer Sri Sreesanth had taken 2-17, removing Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting.
