Powerful batsman Jesse Ryder has been recalled by New Zealand for October’s tour of Bangladesh after proving he has fully recovered from a hand injury.

Ryder led the New Zealand Emerging Players team in a four-nation tournament in Australia in July and proved his fitness to the selectors' satisfaction after suffering the injury last February.

Seamer Chris Martin has been recalled to the one-day squad, while fast bowler Iain O’Brien and opener Aaron Redmond will join the Black Caps for the two Test matches in Chittagong and Mirpur.

“Chris Martin is recalled to the ODI squad, with Iain O’Brien and Aaron Redmond to join the team for the two Test matches,” said selector Dion Nash.

“We welcome Jesse Ryder back to the Black Caps squad for both forms of the game. Jesse performed well on the Emerging Players tour in Australia in July.”

With the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan postponed until 2009, New Zealand have no fixtures before the Bangladesh tour which begins with a warm-up match on October 7.

The three match one-day series begins two days later in Mirpur, with the first Test starting on October 17 in Chittagong.

“The team will have the challenge of competitive cricket in sub-continent conditions after the break enforced by the postponement of the Champions Trophy,” added Nash.

“Bangladesh will provide a stern test going into another international season, which offers the Black Caps the chance to build on this year’s home and away series against England.

“The ODI squad leaves for Bangladesh on 30 September, four days earlier than previously scheduled to ensure a period of quality, relevant preparation.”

New Zealand squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Grant Elliott, Daniel Flynn, Mark Gillespie (ODI series only), Gareth Hopkins, Jamie How, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Iain O’Brien (Test series only), Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Aaron Redmond (Test series only), Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Scott Styris (ODI series only), Ross Taylor.
