Ryder misses out
New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder will miss the remainder of the Commonwealth Bank one-day international series against Australia because of a shoulder problem.
Ryder suffered the injury when the Black Caps were in Canberra for their tour match against the Prime Minister's XI, and it has not improved despite an injection and intensive treatment.
"Unfortunately it just hasn't responded," coach Andy Moles confirmed.
"It's sad he's not leaving with us today (from Perth to Melbourne), because he's an integral part of our one-day side.
"(But) we're moving forward with a lot of confidence, having won (the first match of the series) - and we believe we can put in another performance on top of that one yesterday.
"A lot of these young players dream of coming to Australia and winning a one-day game, so they will take a lot of strength from the win yesterday."
Moles also welcomed the news the Australia selectors are thinking of resting Ponting for the next three one-day internationals - while opener Shaun Marsh also seems likely to miss the next match with a hamstring injury.
But the Kiwi coach is still expecting a tough challenge.
"Whoever they bring in, they're a very proud cricketing team - and they'll be trying their utmost to reverse the performance we saw yesterday," he said.
