Shahadat Hossain & Ryan Austin

Ryan Austin turns away as he is dismissed for three by Shahadat Hossain to leave West Indies firmly in the mire at St George's

David Bernard hit an unbeaten 61 as West Indies limped to 192 for eight at stumps on day three of the second Test against Bangladesh.

On a day often interrupted and then curtailed by rain in St George’s, Bernard was the standout performer for a home side again missing their regular names.

The home side lead by 197 heading into day four with Bernard key if they are to set the tourists a challenging victory target.

Bernard attacked from the off with his runs coming off just 71 balls but only he and Travis Dowlin, with 49, made any kind of impact.

The hosts started the day on 56 for one but lost wickets too easily against an attack not used to such success.

Omar Phillips was first to depart for 29, Shakib Al Hasan snaring his second wicket of the innings after also striking last night.

Ryan Hinds (two) and captain Floyd Reifer (three) came and went quickly before Dowlin, who made 95 in the first innings, fell just one run short of another half-century.

Bernard and Darren Sammy frustrated the Bangladeshis with a 56-run partnership for the sixth wicket before Sammy was dismissed for 22 by Enamul Haque Jnr with Shakib taking the catch at mid-wicket.

That prompted another mini-collapse with wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton (one) and Ryan Austin (three) both failing to offer any support to Bernard.

Rain meant an early tea and the storm clouds failed to disappear meaning stumps was called at 5.10pm local time.

Shakib was the pick of the Bangladesh attack with four for 61 from 22 overs.
