Sarwan returns to ODI fold
Ramnaresh Sarwan could play his first one-day international in 12 months after being named in West Indies' squad to take on Sri Lanka in the upcoming three-match series, which starts in Port of Spain on Thursday.
Injury has prevented the Guyanese batsman from playing ODI cricket since the Windies' defeat to England in the 2007 World Cup, but Sarwan returns as vice-captain after a matchwinning hundred in Trinidad, which secured a 1-1 series draw for his side.
All 11 players who won the second Test in Port of Spain on Sunday were named in the 16-man party for the one-dayers, though 12th man Amit Jaggernauth has not been selected.
Fast bowler Ravi Rampaul, leg-spinner Rawl Lewis and opening batsman Brenton Parchment have all been omitted after featuring in the Windies’ last ODI series against South Africa.
In their place come Sarwan, all-rounder Kieron Pollard and left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn.
Trinidadian Pollard played his only international to date in the last World Cup, and could play an ODI on his home ground for the first time.
The first two ODIs take place in Port of Spain, before finishing in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
West Indies squad: Chris Gayle (captain), Ramnaresh Sarwan, Sulieman Benn, Patrick Browne (wkt), Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Fidel Edwards, Runako Morton, Kieron Pollard, Daren Powell, Denesh Ramdin (wkt), Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Devon Smith, Jerome Taylor.
