Ramnaresh Sarwan would not object if he did not regain the West Indies captaincy from Chris Gayle when he returns from injury.
Sarwan, 27, injured his ankle last November and is recuperating by playing for Guyana in the Carib Beer series, where he is the top run-scorer after two matches.
Gayle, himself struggling with thumb and hamstring problems, made a positive impression when he took control in the first two Tests in South Africa, leading the Windies to their first Test victory in nearly three years.
And though Sarwan hopes to be back in the side when Sri Lanka tour the Caribbean in March, he will not be upset if the selectors stand by Gayle.
"It doesn't really matter whether I am captain or not, or whether Chris is captain," Sarwan said.
“I just want to start back playing international cricket and performing consistently, trying to assist the team in the best way I can.
“I am just hoping that in two weeks’ time I should be fitter and be able to compete at the highest level.”
