Precipitation rules in Pallekele
The opening one-day international between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Pallekele was washed out without a ball being bowled.
Umpires Ian Gould and Ranmore Martinesz decided to call the match off at 5:15pm local time after rain had fallen steadily all day.
The washout follows the abandoned one-off Twenty20 international at the same venue on Tuesday, when only 16 overs were possible.
The five-match series was due to move to Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium on Sunday but flooding there means the next two games will be played at Pallekele.
