Injured Mendis misses out
Ajantha Mendis has been ruled out of Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 match against New Zealand and the first three one-day internationals between the two teams due to a side strain.
Mendis picked up the injury during the World Twenty20, but was still able to play a significant role in the tournament; his four wickets in the final failed to prevent West Indies from emerging victorious.
Mahela Jayawardene and Lasith Malinga have been rested for next Tuesday’s T20 encounter, while Sachithra Senanayake is preferred to Rangana Herath.
After calling up Akila Dananjaya for the World T20, Sri Lanka have turned to another unknown quantity by selecting 19-year-old spinner Tharindu Kaushal in their ODI squad.

He is joined in a 15-man party by Dananjaya, but there is no place for batsman Chamara Kapugedera or pacemen Nuwan Pradeep and Isuru Udana.
